A 23-year-old Florida woman, Megan Lynn Mileskiewicz, was arrested after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend’s dog multiple times, claiming the animal was “bothering” her. Deputies with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident the morning of December 31, after a witness reported the concerning behavior.
According to the sheriff’s office, the call came in at approximately 10:42 am. A witness claimed to have seen Mileskiewicz attacking the dog with a sharp object. When officers arrived at the scene, the witness informed them that Mileskiewicz had fled out the back door of the residence.
“Deputies quickly located Mileskiewicz hiding behind a tool shed in the backyard, face down on the ground surrounded by bushes,” the sheriff’s office detailed in a statement. Press release.
Despite repeated orders to leave, Mileskiewicz initially refused to cooperate. She was eventually arrested and taken into custody. The victim of the attack, a two-year-old pit bull, suffered two deep cuts, each approximately 2 to 3 inches long, on his back.
While the injuries were considered non-life-threatening, officers described them as “active bleeding.” After being read his Miranda rights, Mileskiewicz allegedly admitted his actions to authorities. She stated that the dog was “bothering” her, which caused her discomfort, she said. WTSP.
She referred to her actions as a “mistake.” The pit bull has since received medical attention and his condition is expected to improve. Mileskiewicz was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center, where she faces charges of animal cruelty. His bail was set at $3,500.
The sheriff’s office has not released additional details about the incident, including whether the dog remains in the care of its owner or has been taken into protective custody.
