With the opening ceremony in Paris now over, attention now turns to the athletes and their quest for medals, including swimming superstar Ariarne Titmus and canoeing world champion Jessica Fox.
Several Australians will be in action on Saturday, which is officially the first day of competition.
Below are our local stars who will be chasing their sporting dreams on the big stage, in AEST time:

Swimming, starting at 7pm.
Emma McKeon is favourite to storm through the heats of the women’s 100m butterfly alongside Alexandria Perkins, before Ariarne Titmus adjusts her goggles ahead of the heats of the women’s 400m freestyle with Jamie Perkins.
In the men’s 100m breaststroke heats, look out for Sam Williamson and Josh Yong, while the men’s 400m freestyle heats will see Elijah Winnington and Sam Short.
Other events in the water will be the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay and the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay (Australia).
Basketball, 7 p.m.
The Boomers are in top form and will take to the field when they play Spain in Group A.
Brian Goorjian’s men won bronze in Tokyo three years ago, and having recently pushed the US team to the limit in a practice match, they are fancied about their chances of another medal.
With the opening ceremony in Paris now over, the focus now turns to the athletes, including Australian swimming superstar Ariarne Titmus (pictured).
Jessica Fox (pictured as Opening Ceremony flag bearer) will compete in the women’s kayak singles heats from midnight AEST on Saturday.
Tennis, 8pm
At Roland Garros, home of the French Open, Australian Matthew Ebden faces the brutal task of taking on Novak Djokovic in the first round.
And if Ebden manages to upset the Serb, Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal will likely be his next opponent on clay.
In doubles action, Ellen Perez and Daria Saville face a tough task first against American pair Coco Gauff and Jess Pegula.
Hockey, 9.15pm
In the men’s Pool B, the Kookaburras will face Argentina. Australia were unlucky to take silver in Tokyo after losing on penalties to Belgium and will be looking to get their Paris campaign off to a flying start.
