EDMONTON — Change is like death and taxes: it’s a guarantee.
For the Edmonton Oilers, change was inevitable this offseason. Whether it was an attempt to bolster defensive depth or the challenge of “getting back on the wing,” something was going to change.

The St. Louis Blues’ dual deals cauterized the wound of losing Warren Foegele, Vincent Desharnais and Ryan McLeod earlier in the offseason. With all the new faces being brought in at the top of the lineup, it was only a matter of time until one or two players were forced to leave.

Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg are now members of the Blues. With them come new jersey numbers.
Broberg will wear jersey number “6” with the Blues. Holloway will wear number “81.” With the Oilers, the players last wore numbers “86” and “55” respectively.
Joining a new team can be a challenging experience. Hopefully these young players can fill important roles and be successful with their new team.
Oilers fans may be bitter about how it all went down. At the end of the day, the players made the best decision with all the information they had. Signing those deals could be the best decision of their lives. Time will tell if that happens.
In the meantime, Oil Country should familiarize itself with these new numbers, so it knows who to look for the next time the Blues and Oilers play each other.
