MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) reported Wednesday that 1,800 farmers have benefited from the Accelerating Livelihood and Assets Buildup (ALAB) Karbawan project.
The ALAB Karbawan project is the umbrella name for the two other programs; the Carabao-based Business Improvement Network (CBIN) and the Coconut-Carabao Development Project (CCDN), which were launched and funded by the Office of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reforms.
The PCC also said that a total of 3,995 carabaos have been distributed to the 1,800 beneficiaries since 2019.
“In June 2023, a dairy population survey conducted by the Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA) reported a notable increase of 10.1% in the dairy carabao population, now estimated at 30,151, representing 32.1% of the population in a total of 93,930 dairy animals in the country.” said.
Dairy Box’s processing and marketing infrastructure, which handles the promotion and distribution of dairy products, has also grown to 37 locations, with 42 more earmarked for construction, the PCC added.
