Everilda Cux-Ajtzalam, 18, a Guatemalan citizen, was arrested Thursday for allegedly placing her newborn baby in a garbage bag and throwing it into a dumpster.

A teenage mother apparently living in the country illegally gave a disgusting excuse for placing her newborn baby in a garbage bag and throwing it into a dumpster.

Everilda Cux-Ajtzalam, 18, of Guatemala, was arrested Thursday for allegedly leaving the baby with the umbilical cord still attached in a dumpster outside an apartment building in Houston, Texas, on July 21.

She allegedly told police after the incident that she thought she had “no choice” but to throw the baby away because she didn’t want her boyfriend to break up with her. according to court documents obtained by Law & Crime.

The documents go on to reveal that she gave birth “on the ground behind the food truck where she works” and then took the baby, referred to in court documents as John Doe or CW, and placed him in a dumpster.

“(The defendant) placed the child, placenta and umbilical cord in a trash bag, took the trash bag to a dumpster and left the child in the dumpster tied inside the trash bag,” a magistrate judge wrote in a bond order, noting that the “event” was captured on surveillance footage.

Finally, a passerby heard the newborn’s cries from the dumpster and called 911.

Houston Police Department officers and emergency personnel responded to the scene around 1:15 p.m.

Doctors were then seen wrapping the baby in a blanket next to the garbage container. The child looked like it had just emerged from the womb, with wet hair, shaved skin and the umbilical cord still attached.

Fortunately, he survived that terrible experience.

He was examined at a hospital and found to be in good health.

The baby is now in the care of Child Protective Services.

Cux-Ajtzalam is now charged with one felony count of abandoning a child without intent to return the child.

She made her first court appearance on Friday, where she was reportedly reprimanded by Harris District Court Judge Veronica M. Nelson.

“It was pure luck that the child was found and received care,” the judge said. according to the Houston Chronicle.

‘Considering it’s the middle of summer in Houston, Texas and the temperature at that time… I’m going to set bail in this case at $90,000.’

Prosecutors requested bail of $150,000 and a public defender requested bail of $7,500, Law & Crime reports.

Cux-Akhtzalam’s bail was later raised to $200,000 on Monday. ABC 13 report.
