The fifth suspect in the tragic murder of 9-year-old Cailee Knight has been arrested and booked into the Mobile County Metropolitan Jail. The suspect, a 17-year-old girl, was extradited from Texas, Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood confirmed. FOX10 News. She faces charges of two counts of capital murder, attempted murder and discharging a firearm into a building.
During a press conference last month, District Attorney Blackwood addressed the role of the teenage suspect, although no specific details were revealed. He indicated that she acted as an accomplice to the murder, describing her participation as “collaborator and instigator.” Blackwood explained: “As the investigation developed, it was revealed that they had a role, such as aiding and abetting.
“They were there to support what was happening and we believe they knew what was happening.” The case dates back to last December, when Cailee Knight was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting while she was sleeping on her couch on Rhett Drive. The incident, which shocked the community, led to an extensive investigation that culminated in the indictment of five people: Ariel Curry, Tyrone Williams, Darius Lucky, Ricki Thier and the 17-year-old suspect.
The five were indicted by a grand jury last month and the charges were upgraded from murder to capital murder. Blackwood provided a statement to FOX10 News regarding the latest arrest, reinforcing his office’s commitment to justice for Cailee.
