‘It doesn’t look right’: the 17-year-old driver’s fear is stuck in a car that crashed into a river – while a woman escapes in the passenger seat and police divers search for water for a body
A 17-year-old is trapped in a car after jumping into a river in northern New South Wales on Tuesday.
The car crashed into the Richmond River near South Ballina this morning around 11:45 AM.
Emergency services were called to River Drive after a vehicle was reported to have driven off the road and driven into the river.
The female passenger in the front seat managed to escape from the wreckage, but police still fear more than three hours later that the driver is still locked up.
Richmond Police District agents, Marine Area Command, SES, NSW Ambulance, NSW Maritime, Marine Rescue and NSW Surf Life Saving are all on site to collect the vehicle.
PolAir and police divers have since been deployed to the site to assist in the operation.
More to come.
