A British teenager is in a critical condition after nearly drowning at a water park in Mallorca.

The 15-year-old was rushed to hospital late this afternoon after the shocking incident at Alcudia’s Hidropark water park.

The Civil Guard motorcyclists drove ahead of the ambulance to ensure that it reached the hospital as quickly as possible.

Sources from the 061 emergency service have reported that the accident occurred at around 4:00 p.m., when they received a report of a serious drowning in the Alcudia water park.

An ambulance arrived at the scene and the medical team confirmed that the patient was in critical condition, before transferring him to the nearby Son Espases hospital.

Given the seriousness of the victim’s condition, the Civil Guard launched a ‘green alert’, a special operation in which the various patrols have cut off traffic at the main intersections through which the ambulance had to pass to allow it to pass freely.

The island newspaper Crónica Balear claims that the 15-year-old is of British nationality.

His report says: ‘The minor was knocked unconscious after falling down one of the slides and hit his head.’

The report continued: “The child was knocked unconscious as a result of the impact and once he reached the pool, he went to the bottom of it.”

‘The rescuers quickly rescued him from the water. Within a few minutes, officers from the Local Police, Civil Guard, a medicalized ambulance from SAMU 061, a rapid response vehicle and a Falck ambulance arrived at the scene of the accident.’

‘On arrival, the paramedics began to resuscitate him. He had regained his pulse, but was still unconscious, so they decided to activate the green alert to transfer him as quickly as possible by ambulance to the Son Espases University Hospital.’

‘For this reason, SAMU 061 has contacted the Civil Guard and the Local Police to facilitate the circulation of the ambulance.’

An investigation is underway to determine exactly what happened.
