Michael Goff III, 15, is charged with criminal homicide for murdering his father, Michael Goff Jr., 57, whose bones were found in a duffel bag earlier this month.
A teenager from Tennessee has been arrested by Nashville police in connection with the death of his father.
Michael Goff III, 15, has been charged with criminal homicide following the death of his father, Michael Goff Jr., which occurred in May, according to police.
The decomposed remains of Michael Goff Jr. were discovered on September 2 in a small duffel bag in the woods according to The Tennessean.
Goff had been reported missing on May 27 by his mother after seeing him the last time the day before.
The coroner's office confirmed on September 6 that the bones were the remains of Michael Goff Jr.
At the time of his disappearance, the police interviewed the son in May.
He told them that the couple had been driving south of Nashville when Michael Goff Jr. stopped the vehicle, gave his watch to his son, said "I love you", entered a wooded area and never returned.
However, now it seems that story was pure invention after an investigation of the Unit of Cold Cases of Homicide discovered a key witness.
57-year-old Michael Goff Jr. was reported missing by his wife on May 27. His bones were found Septemeber 2
The witness said that Michael Goff III showed them cuts and scratches on his hands and allegedly told them that he had killed someone a few days before with a barbed wire.
The story was corroborated after a 15-year-old friend from Goff III presented new information.
The teenager told police that the suspect arrived at his home on May 26, the last day that Michael Goff Jr. was seen alive, and said he had just killed his father.
The witness told the police how he went with the suspect to get rid of the body and allegedly saw the suspect take money and other objects from the body.
The wooded area where the body could have been placed initially was discovered this week.
Bones were found in the area although it is still unclear if they are related to this case.
The bag was found deep in the forest near Lincoya Bay Apartments, on the popular cliffs on Percy Priest Lake.
It was near a popular spot where people jump or carry a rope to the water.
Police say that Michael Goff III also stopped answering questions related to the case.
