  • A Gold Coast teen has listed a rare ‘swollen’ Dorito she discovered at auction veiling
  • The rare snack has reached a price of $20,000 with more than 45 bidders
  • Rylee Stuart said her dad thinks cash must be his because he ‘bought the package’

The saying ‘cheap as chips’ doesn’t apply to an Australian teenager who goes on to make a fortune after finding a rare ‘swollen’ Dorito.

Gold Coast student Rylee Stuart first debuted the air-filled corn chips — they’re usually always flat — on TikTok, where the clip quickly went viral, racking up 2 million views.

The 13-year-old then decided to list the item on eBay, sparking an auction frenzy that has seen bids soar to over $20,000 in just a few days.

Along with photos of the aforementioned chip from various angles, the only description for her listing was “swollen Dorito one of a kind.”

“I was about to eat it, but I thought I’d better save it for later,” Rylee told me. 9News.

When she checked the auction, she said she was shocked.

“I saw $10,000 and I liked to scream,” she said.

But who is entitled to the windfall is a matter of debate.

“Dad says it’s been his chip since he bought the package, but I ate the package and found it, so I believe it’s mine,” Rylee said.

The listing has 45 bidders as of Thursday, but Rylee will have to wait a few days after the auction closes on Tuesday to find out how serious the bidders are.

But it’s been done before with crazy foods sold for thousands on the site, a pretty common phenomenon.

Earlier this year, an American teenager successfully sold the single Doritos in a jar as “conversation pieces” for $20 a pop.

While chicken nugget in the form of a popular character from the video game ‘Among Us’ recently sold for $136,000.

And while whoever buys the chip probably won’t tuck into the $20,000 treat, the flavor in case you were wondering: Cheese Supreme.
