11-year-old boy dies in shooting where 14-year-old friend was injured while police searched for motive

An 11-year-old boy was shot dead while riding his dirt bike in Philadelphia on Friday night, while a 14-year-old boy was also injured on the bike.
The shooting took place around 6:30 p.m. on Friday in the city’s Oxford Circle neighborhood.
The 11-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was pronounced dead at Saint Christopher’s Hospital for Children before 7 p.m.
The 14-year-old suffered gunshot wounds to his right arm and right ankle, but was admitted to Jeanes Hospital in stable condition.

The shooting took place while the boys were riding a dirt bike in Oxford Circle
The identity of the victims has not been released, nor have any suspects been identified or weapons recovered.
“ Someone came out on foot for some unknown reason at one point and shot the two boys while they were riding this pedal bike down the street, ” Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw told CBS3
“We do what we can to interview witnesses to get descriptions and to find out the motive behind it.”
The number of patrols in the area will increase as the police search for suspects and evidence.
‘My grandfather was taking a shower and I heard the shots and he came down and I asked,’ Was that fireworks? ‘ And he said, “I don’t know,” said 12-year-old Santiago Quintero, who heard the double shooting.
Another witness, a neighbor, reports attempts to try to save the child’s life after the shooting.

The shooting was part of a violent night in Philadelphia in which at least nine people were shot
“We run outside and we see him in the middle of the street and my neighbor, she is a nurse, she comes to try to resuscitate him,” said the neighbor. WPVI
“We’re doing everything we can to get as much information as possible in real time so that we can put this together as quickly as possible,” Outlaw added.
The twin shootings of the two children were part of a deadly night of violence in the city.
KYW News Radio At least nine people – including the two boys – were reportedly shot on Friday evening.
Seven people, ages 17 to 42, were shot at the Golf & Social bar in the Fishtown neighborhood, and three of them were seriously injured.
Multiple weapons were recovered from the scene and one person of interest was taken into custody.
CBS3 reports that 114 people have died in Philadelphia so far in the first three months of 2021, a peak of 30 percent from a year ago.
