An 11-year-old boy died after being hit in the groin by a cricket ball while practicing.

The victim, identified as Shaurya Kalidas Khandve by news.com.au, died after leaving the Jagad Guru Sports Academy in Pune, India, earlier this month.

He was hit in the groin after throwing a ball and the freak accident was caught on camera.

The images show the young man dressed in a dark red shirt, running and throwing the ball, which he quickly returns.

The ball hits him in the groin and he immediately doubles over.

He falls to the ground, then gets up before collapsing again moments later.

Several friends check on the now motionless boy before administering CPR and seeking medical help.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police spokesperson Sachin Dhamane confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

Officers are awaiting autopsy results and have interviewed witnesses to the incident.

Shaurya was known as Shambhu to his friends and was a sports fan who had aspirations of becoming a professional wrestler.

The Pune airport police station has registered his death as accidental.
