100-year-old German grandmother is beheaded by axe-wielding ‘black sheep’ grandson

100-year-old German grandmother is beheaded by ax-wielding grandson who was ‘the black sheep of the family’

  • Artur B., 37, is the prime suspect in the murder of his grandmother Amalie G.
  • The murder investigators have not yet determined a motive for the crime

A 100-year-old grandmother has been beheaded by her own grandson who used an ax to carry out the grisly murder, police have revealed.

Retired farm worker, Amalie G., was found dead in her apartment in the city of Hamburg after the attack by 37-year-old grandson Artur B., investigators say.

Police have yet to determine a motive for the gruesome murder, a family member told the German newspaper BILD that chemical worker Artur was considered ‘the black sheep of the family’. Another source said the pair had rowed over money in the past.

“But most of the time he was unemployed and constantly short of money. Relatives kept their distance from him,” the relative added.

Artur allegedly called the police to say he beheaded Grandmother and when the police arrived at the bloody crime scene they discovered an axe. He is now in custody.

Chief Prosecutor Liddy Oechtering told BILD: ‘According to the preliminary result of the autopsy, it can be assumed that a transection of the cervix caused by sharp and blunt force was the cause of death. The suspected crime is an ax found at the crime scene.’

During an autopsy reconstruction, coroners found that one of the blows with the ax was delivered from behind the necklace, part of the spinal cord.

Late Tuesday afternoon, a judge issued an arrest warrant against Artur B. for manslaughter.

Chief Public Prosecutor Oechtering said: ‘The suspect has not provided any information to the investigating judge.’

The murder investigators have not yet determined a motive for the crime.

A neighbor of the slain centenarian told Bild, “We actually had good contact before her death. Amalie told me her grandson had already broken into the apartment through the balcony and wanted to steal her money.’

According to information obtained by BILD, he also knew that his grandmother had saved a small fortune.

Neighbors told the newspaper that arguments between the two were sometimes loud enough to be overheard.

The neighbor said: “The grandson regularly came to his grandmother’s apartment and took care of her. But there were still arguments.’

Relatives of Artur B. and Amalie G. say it is possible that an argument over money escalated the situation on the night of the murder.

When asked by BILD, the public prosecutor said that Artur B. had no criminal record.

According to information from the Hamburger Abendblatt daily newspaper, the man was only known to the police for minor offenses and none of these were acts of violence.
