A 10-month-old baby named Waylon has been released from the hospital after a grueling fight for his life due to injuries allegedly caused by his mother’s boyfriend. According authoritiesThe boyfriend, Jordan Boggess, admitted to giving Waylon a “bear hug” after throwing him into the air and failing to catch him, which had life-altering consequences for the baby.
Waylon’s father, Tyler Burbridge, shared the family’s grief and the lasting impact the incident will have on his son’s life. “He’s basically been rebooted as a newborn,” Burbridge said, explaining the extent of the trauma Waylon suffered. Waylon spent nearly a month and a half in the hospital in critical condition, facing an uncertain future.
The incident occurred in September when Waylon’s mother put a baby sweater on him and briefly walked away to go to the bathroom. According to authorities, Boggess picked up Waylon and threw him into the air, but failed to catch him on the second throw. She then allegedly hugged Waylon in a tight “bear hug” until the baby stopped crying. “He basically took my son’s life. He took my son’s future away. You don’t throw a baby in the air,” Burbridge said, expressing her grief and frustration.
According online registrationsWaylon’s family has shared that the injuries he suffered are life-altering. “As of now, he can’t see. He can’t sit down. He can barely lift his head. He will have to have a lot of physical therapy,” Burbridge explained. The once active baby now faces a long road to recovery, and extensive therapy is required to help him regain some functionality.
Waylon’s mother, Bessie McCamish, stated that the family’s main focus is on Waylon’s recovery and supporting him through this difficult time. Both parents are committed to providing him with the care he needs to face these new challenges.
Jordan Boggess has been charged with child abuse and is scheduled to appear in court next month. As Waylon begins his healing journey, his family is determined to seek justice and raise awareness about the devastating consequences of child abuse.
