Pussy Riot's Pyotr Verzilov

A member of the Russian punk protest band Pussy Riot is seriously ill in the hospital after possible poisoning, according to Russian news reports.

Ekho Moskvy, the radio and online news portal Meduza reported Wednesday that group member Pyotr Verzilov has been in emergency care since Tuesday night.

They quoted his fellow Pussy Riot member, Veronika Nikulshina, saying that Verzilov's symptoms include loss of sight and the ability to speak.

Nikulshina said that Verzilov was being treated in the toxicology unit of the Moscow hospital, which indicates suspicion of poisoning.

A post on the band's official Twitter account said: "His life is in danger, we think he was poisoned."

Verzilov, Nikulshina and two other activists served 15 days in prison for altering the final of the July World Cup.

They ran to the field in police uniforms, briefly interrupting the match between France and Croatia.

Pussy Riot said they were protesting excessive police powers in Russia.
